The Home of Shreveport’s History
About Us
Originally called "City Cemetery," the name was officially changed to Oakland Cemetery in 1905, and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The earliest tombstone dates back to 1842 and Oakland is home to 16 of the city's mayors, among other notable residents. The Oakland Cemetery Preservation Society is responsible for preservation of the grounds and historic records.
